The doctor came in about 10:30. Dad was able to lift up each arm and leg for the doctor; he asked Dad what year it was, Dad said 2003. He asked if he had any headache, pain or discomfort. Dad said no.
Then the doctor asked me a number of questions relating to previous procedures such as his quadruple bypass in December 2003, with accompanying TIAs, his heart catheterization and cataract surgeries in fall of 2006 and various questions about his family and medical history.
The doctor then reviewed with me the findings from the CAT scan.
He said Dad has had a series of strokes since the TIAs, with the one that brought him to the emergency room yesterday being the most recent. He said the strokes and accompanying bleeding weakens blood vessels in the area of the damage and can create additional strokes and damage to the brain. I specifically asked if the strokes, apart from the one that apparently occurred during the night Saturday, were the TIAs or separate events. He said the strokes were totally independent of the TIAs and that there had been a series of them, but he could not establish the timetable of when they occurred.
Dad will have some more tests this afternoon, and possibly may be allowed to go home today. The nurse said he could have a rest now, he said "no, it's a siesta".
