Dad and Keith and their parents in Hutchinson, circa 1931
Dad, brother Keith, Sister Jan Horst and families had a great Saturday cookout (you can see Grant Horst photos here) next to the house he and some of his siblings were born in, in rural Abilene, Kansas - and Karen, Patrick, Cheryl and I were with him as well (Dad's youngest, Doug and his friend Roberta arrived later in the evening). Dad also visited with a couple cousins (a first and a second) on his way out of town, and enjoyed that. We're going to try to get him up there at least once a month, if possible.
Ken's 2nd daughter Karen in foreground, with husband Patrick Carder. They are outgoing missionaries to the Philippines, Karen served there previously 1989-1995 (not to mention being born there).
Dad may be cautioning his younger brother, to be gentle and measured in responding to whoever has the floor (yard, in this case). Or he may just have his hand on his brothers arm, and thinking no particular thoughts at the moment.
Dad, with his youngest, son #4 Doug, and Doug's new friend Roberta, of LA California and Emmaus-Iowa. (the house behind them is where Dad and Mom lived for 24 years, and Doug was 2 1/2 when they moved there).
Patiently awaiting someone to bring seconds on the burgers and brats, and some strawberry rhubarb cobbler.
Dad, and his younger and only brother Keith, Dairy/Wheat Farmer/Beekeeper extrordinaire and Phd. of Ping Pong. (you may notice K-State chairs in the background, there is a terrible KU/K-State Family rivalry, which to our knowledge has not led to any violence)

Listening intently to Mark's (Keith's son-in-law) theological point

Ken and Keith in the chapel building which was constructed by their Great Uncle, Noah Martin, in 1918 before either of them were thought of, and both were early - and perhaps noisy - occupants of the nursery.
Finally, a video. Dad's brother Keith knows (and has as long as I can remember) more poems and stories than anyone you have ever met. (did I mention his relatives young and not so young, rarely beat him in Ping Pong, when he was reigning champion)? Every now and then he'd say "I'll spot you 7", and then you had a chance.
